Third on the list of common intrusive animals, opossums too can cause damage to dwellings. Not as agile as squirrels, or raccoons, the opossums are usually found entering dwellings trough crawl spaces. Like raccoons, these reclusive marsupials are opportunistic in their search for food and eat mostly meat, but will also eat fruits and grain. Garbage cans and pet food dishes are first on the list of dining for an experienced urban opossum, and will return each night once he has found a productive spot.
Like raccoons, the opossum can be dangerous to pets, farm animals, or poultry. Their scat/feces can carry parasites that can be harmful to kids, pets, or horses.
They have good qualities also! They are immune to most venom, and poison from snakes, so they will eat snakes. They do not get rabies! They will eat 5,000 ticks each year, from grooming themselves. Plus they are Cute!
